Cowboys are often independent even in a community.  You’re alone even when you’re not.

Samurais have hierarchy, but they are often roughly equal within it, below a lord but above a commoner. You’re a dominant even when you’re not at the top.

But pirates have a strict hierarchy enforced by a combination of naval rank and a little chaos. They have to work together to achieve difficult even dangerous tasks.  They have to snap to on command. And the isolation for weeks at sea…?  Also ropes. Lots and lots of ropes.

Mm, yes, very interesting reasoning.

Are you familiar with the captain’s daughter?

Supposedly my grandmother’s family subsisted off piracy somewhere way back in my family ancestry… And the town my grandfather’s ancestral family lived in was their main site of plundering!

You're the great great great....grandaughter of a pirate. Love it. Lots of Filipino are Chinese. Maybe it's her, or they at least knew each other haha

Took much hierarchy, too many rules, for samurai.  The swords are cool though.  Actually, most European pirate ships were very egalitarian - many pirates were naval deserters who hated the extreme hierarchy in the navy.  Captains were often elected and often ousted by the crew if they didn't produce results. Still, burning down towns and rape and such, not interests of mine.   So, cowboy.  Plus, my mother grew up on a cattle ranch and loved horses and two of my uncles were ranching right up until they died, so it's in my blood.  If my mom hadn't moved away, I could have easily ended up as essentially a cowboy.

.. And possibly hanging with Taylor Sheridan on "The Last Cowboy" a well done 2019 tv series about elite horse riders competing in the high-stakes sport of western reining... the horses are amazing.
